Book 170 Done

Day 821
Laura Lippman "I'd Know You Anywhere"

This was an interesting book. I'm pretty sure I've read the author before and I thought I remembered liking her books. I can see why. The story line kept you interested and the characters remained the slight mysteries they needed to be.

Book 170

Laura Lippman "I'd Know You Anywhere"

I don't know what day I started this book because it seems I forgot to post.

Book 169 Done

Day 806
Garth Stein "The Art of Racing In The Rain"

Love... love... love this book. I had not read it before and it was great. Told from the dog's perspective it was sad, funny and enlightening. Just a fun read.

Sunday, November 25, 2012

Book 169

Day 800
Garth Stein "The Art of Racing In The Rain"

I'm not sure why I never read this book considering my love of all things dog related. Maybe I thought I already read it... maybe I did. I read the synopsis and nothing sounded familiar. We'll see...

Book 168 Done

Day 800
Janet Evanovich "Notorious Nineteen"

This book did not disappoint. The characters are like old friends, the storylines continue to be funny... all in all exactly what I expect from a Janet Evanovich book.

Wednesday, November 21, 2012

Book 168

Day 796
Janet Evanovich "Notorious Nineteen"

After such an emotional sad book this will be a welcome retreat. I look forward to the new Janet book every year!

Book 167 Done

Day 796
Joyce Carol Oates "A Widow's Story"

Wow this was a tough read but so good. It really makes you think... about your own relationship, about people you know who have lost their partner, about life.

So many sad moments but written the way she writes I never shed a tear. What a story...

Wednesday, November 7, 2012

Book 167

Day 782
Joyce Carol Oates "A Widow's Story"

I believe that I read a great review of this book. I know this memoir is going to be sad but unfortunately every love story has a sad ending.

Book 166 Done

Day 782
Nicholas Sparks "The Notebook"

Hmm... at times I liked it better than the movie but overall I think the movie won here. That's really weird for me but the story moved along nicely in the movie and was a bit slow in the book. I wish I had read it first.

Saturday, November 3, 2012

Book 166

Day 778
Nicholas Sparks "The Notebook"

I'm going in for another one... I need the fluff reading.

Book 165 Done

Day 778
Nicholas Sparks "The Lucky One"

This was a good book... I've been in the mood for sappy reading and I'm definitely getting that with him. Hurricane Sandy has destroyed the Northeast coast over the last week. This has been the perfect escape.

Sunday, October 28, 2012

Book 164

Day 772
Nicholas Sparks "The Lucky One"

I'm running out of books I'm interested in that I can take out from my library onto the Kindle so I'm going to start to read some that I might normally skip.

Friday, October 26, 2012

Book 163 Done

Day 770
Katherine Anne Kindred "An Accidental Mother"

Heartbreaking... I was sobbing this morning. She writes very well so as you watch her and this little boy (who's mother was a drug addict and he didnt know her) grow close just to know he will be taken from her is terrible.

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

Book 163

Day 767
Katherine Anne Kindred "An Accidental Mother"

Non fiction is usually boring... but I think this could be interesting. Woman gets a divorce, meets a man with a kid, they get married and then divorced. Now the title makes sense right? We shall see...

Book 162 Done

Day 767
Nicholas Sparks "Nights in Rodanthe"

Alright... so he tells a good story but geez oh pete. Makes you wanna jump off a bridge.

Sunday, October 21, 2012

Book 162

Day 765
Nicholas Sparks "Nights in Rodanthe"

I have not a clue in the world what this is about but once I told people I just saw The Notebook for the first time at 31 yrs old in 2012 they told me I needed to see that movie. So instead I'll do them one better and read the book. I'm sure it's better anyway.

Book 161 Done

Day 765
Stacey Ballis "Off The Menu"

I thought this was a good book but you can tell I read too many mysteries! Every time she went into detail about something between the main character and her boyfriend I would expect the other shoe to drop regarding that scene.

Loved the characters, loved the storyline... she's fun to read.

Monday, October 15, 2012

Book 161

Day 759
Stacey Ballis "Off The Menu"

Love her writing... excited for another great book!

Book 160 Done

Day 759
Julie Powell "Julie &Julia"

This was a fun read... I saw the movie and this story was so much better. More involved and I really enjoyed it.

Book 159 Done

Day 759 Rachel Bertsche "MWF seeking BFF" Eh... this wasn't a great book. She did her research regarding friends but she blended it in with her stories and made it kind of boring.

Tuesday, October 2, 2012

Book 160

Day 746 Julie Powell "Julie &Julia" Love the movie... I'm sure I'll love the book even more.

Friday, September 28, 2012

Book 159

Day 742
Rachel Bertsche "MWF seeking BFF"

First, what does the M stand for?

I remember seeing this in People and wanting to read it... tomorrow I go to NY overnight to see family. I always miss my guy when I go away but I'm looking forward to the weekend. Especially because I get to read for hours in a row on the train!

Book 158 Done

Day 741
Jean Reynolds Page "Accidental Happiness"

This turned out to be a great story. It started with a very interesting first page and got better from there. A little slow at times but for the most part it was a good book.

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

Book 158

Day 732
Jean Reynolds Page "Accidental Happiness"

Another book that I cannot remember the plot... I took this out from the library website on my Kindle. That probably means the cover caught my attention. I've never heard of this author so we'll see how she writes.

Book 157 Done

Day 732
Kaui Hart Hemmings "The Descendants"

This turned out to be a really good book. I wasn't sure what I thought in the first 100 pages or so but it really picked up from there. It was hard not to picture George Clooney the whole time though. There were a few laugh out loud lines which is always nice in a book.

Saturday, September 15, 2012

Book 157

Day 729
Kaui Hart Hemmings "The Descendants"

You all know the George Clooney movie. I haven't seen it because I don't do the movie before book thing. In fact, I mostly hate the movie made from a book genre.

I don't actually remember what the story is but I know I was mildly interested in it so I'd rather read the book.

Tomorrow is 2 years... 155 books completely read.

Book 156 Done

Day 728
Elin Hilderbrand "Summerland"

This was another engrossing story by this author. She really brings you into the story right from the very beginning. The island was so much apart of this story that I had to contact my sister to ask where we used to stay. The roads and places they go in the story sounded so familiar to me. I really enjoyed reading this book...

Saturday, September 8, 2012

Book 156

Day 722
Elin Hilderbrand "Summerland"

Wow I just realized in 8 days I will have been doing this reading project for 2 years. So much in my life has changed.

I love Elin Hilderbrand's books. They all take place on Nantucket. As a child I was fortunate enough to have an uncle who took us there a few summers. We made magical memories as a family. So magical that I'm not sure I will ever go back there. I don't want anything to ruin the images in my head.
Elin does a great job of weaving a great tale while always incorporating the island as a part of the story.

Book 155 Done

Day 722
Gillian Flynn "Gone Girl"

Wow this was a crazy great book.... it is told from the viewpoint of a husband and wife at different times while the main part of the story is the wife is missing. It's twisted, it keeps you on your toes and it's a really interesting read. I wasn't 100% thrilled with the way it ended but it's such a weird book I don't know what a good ending would have been. I will definitely go read her other books.

Saturday, September 1, 2012

Book 155

Day 715
Gillian Flynn "Gone Girl"

I have heard good things and it was reviewed in a few magazines I read. Back home from my awesome beach vacation in the Outer Banks and very much looking forward to 2 more days off hopefully filled with a lot of relaxing and a lot of reading.

Book 154 Done

Day 715
Emily Giffin "Where We Belong"

I put this on my Kindle and thought I would fly through it at the beach. It was a really great book but the sand, the shells and my friends were just more important. Also, those commercials where they show women reading their Kindles on the beach is crap. I couldn't see a thing...

Anyway, great book. I just love her writing. I also love books told from more than one point of view.

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

Book 154

Day 711
Emily Giffin "Where We Belong"

Off we go on our beach vacation to the Outer Banks with some good friends.... on my birthday! Downloaded three books to my Kindle for the trip... looking forward to toes in the sand, drink in the hand while I read. Happy day everyone.

Book 153 Done

Day 708
Lisa Scottoline "Come Home"

Fantastic! I started around 6:30 last night and read until my eyes closed. Then I started around 10AM and read through to the end. I love you Lisa Scottoline... thank you for writing such amazing books.

Friday, August 24, 2012

Book 153

Day 707
Lisa Scottoline "Come Home"

Yay! I've had this one for a while (she autographed it for me at her book signing) but I never had a chance to start. I'm really looking forward to this book. I just love her books and I'm sure this will be another excellent story.

Book 152 Done

Day 700
Adam Corolla "In Fifty Years We'll All Be Chicks"

It translated just fine... not the whole book but some of his stories and punchlines made me laugh...loud. There were also sections I read to Jeremy which is always a good sign.

Monday, August 6, 2012

Book 152

Day 689
Adam Corolla "In Fifty Years We'll All Be Chicks"

He's usually funny... will that translate to a book?

Day 688
James Patterson "11th Hour"

Another great book... I love the Women's Murder Club series. I loved the show as well. Come on #12!

Thursday, August 2, 2012

Book 151

Day 685
James Patterson "11th Hour"

Still reading 145 by the way... just house sitting this week and didn't bring it with me. Exciting to start this one. James is always a good read and I love this series!

Book 150 Done

Day 684
Anne Tyler "Back When We Were Grown-ups"

I actually enjoyed this book... it was slow to start and maybe a little slow in the middle and end as well but the story overall was interesting. You really felt for the main character as she struggled to figure out who she really is. It ended a bit abruptly but for some reason authors seem to like to do that. I need closure so I'm not a big fan of the sudden end.

Thursday, July 26, 2012

Book 150

Day 678
Anne Tyler "Back When We Were Grown-ups"

I need to get back into reading again.... we finally finished our kitchen after 3 years going without so I've taken a break from other things to enjoy being able to cook again. Rapidly approaching 2 years of this project and I've only read 150 books... I thought I'd be farther along. Time to step it up!

Book 149 Done

Day 678
Anthony Bourdain "Medium Raw"

I have not picked up the Steve Jobs book (number 145) since I started this book but it's still next to my bed... I haven't given up.
Now I read most of Medium Raw so I'm going to count it but I didn't finish it. I was actually highly disappointed in this one. After loving Kitchen Confidential and his style of writing I thought I was in for a real treat. Unfortunately his fame got to his head. Not in any kind of cocky, high horse kind of way though. I think he wrote a book that lacked the substance of interesting kitchen stories and was full of telling you over multiple pages uninteresting stories about how meat is produced or stuff like that. I want the dirt. And he didn't deliver.
I took it out from the library on my Kindle and you only get two weeks... my two weeks were up and it automatically deletes off the Kindle. That has happened to me before and I just take it out again. This time I'm not going to bother.

Sunday, July 8, 2012

Book 149

Day 660
Anthony Bourdain "Medium Raw"

Love him, loved Kitchen Confidential...

**I'm over 100 pages into book 145... it's truly an interesting story but there's a lot of computer talk so I can only take it in small doses.**

Book 148 Done

Day 660
Kathryn Stockett "The Help"

This was a fantastic read with a horrible ending. All the characters were great, the stories kept me entertained and then the end let me down. What a bummer..........

Saturday, July 7, 2012

Book 148

Day 659
Kathryn Stockett "The Help"

Both The Help and Water for Elephants were available through my library Kindle lending so I decided to give them a shot. Water for Elephants turned out to be a great read... I wonder if this book will be the same.

Book 147 Done

Day 659
Sara Gruen "Water for Elephants"

I really enjoyed this book. The story weaves between the main character being a 90+year old man in a nursing home and back to when he was a young man working with a circus. Well done.

Wednesday, July 4, 2012

Book 147

Day 656
Sara Gruen "Water for Elephants"

Hmm... I don't usually read books that take place years ago but I've heard lots of good things for a long time so I'll give it a shot.

*Book 145 still going strong*

Book 146 Done

Day 656
Mindy Kaling "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?"

There were some funny parts to this book. I got sidetracked over the last few weeks because our kitchen remodel has actually been happening after 3 years. Fun stuff.

Still reading the Steve Jobs book but I'm going to start another.

Sunday, June 17, 2012

Book 146

Day 639
Mindy Kaling "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?"

I am beginning another book while reading Steve Jobs. I normally never read two books at the same time  but Steve Jobs is almost 600 pages. I've read about 50 so far. It's interesting... and so far well written enough that it's keeping me entertained. But it's a biography so there's a lot of information and long stories. I need to read something else to take away the monotony.

I really like Mindy Kaling. I watched her on The Office and I saw her interviewed a few times. She seems pretty funny.

Sunday, June 10, 2012

Book 145

Day 632
Walter Isaacson "Steve Jobs"

Not sure if I'm going to make it through this one. I'm not usually a fan of non-fiction unless it's a really interesting subject. Steve Jobs is pretty interesting but I don't know how much I'm really going to care. Let's see how this goes.

Book 144 Done

Day 632
Bethenny Frankel "Skinnydipping"

Very entertaining... she drew from her own life experience and wrote an embellished fictional version of it.

Saturday, June 9, 2012

Book 144

Day 631
Bethenny Frankel "Skinnydipping"

Her first novel... as much as I love her I was unable to read "A Place of Yes". Too preachy for me. I'm hoping this novel will keep me entertained.

Book 143 Done

Day 631
Jen Lancaster "Jeneration X"

This was not my favorite of hers. The jist of the book was that it's time to grow up and here are some funny stories and a life lesson at the end of each chapter. Some of the stories were really funny. Some I didn't understand why they were supposed to be interesting. She's also known for putting footnotes throughout her books and they are usually really funny. A lot of these seemed like she was trying too hard.

But when she makes me laugh I laugh pretty hard and she did accomplish that multiple times so overall a good read.

Monday, June 4, 2012

Book 143

Day 626
Jen Lancaster "Jeneration X"

She has written some really great memoirs and I'm excited to start another one...

Book 142 Done

Day 626
Meredith Mileti "Aftertaste"

This was well-written for a first book. The story moved along nicely, the characters were interesting and you cared where it all ended. Hope she writes another one soon....

Wednesday, May 30, 2012

Book 142

Day 621
Meredith Mileti "Aftertaste"

After all that murder and mystery it will be fun to read about a chef who's life is in turmoil. Or maybe it won't... we shall see.

Day 621

Book 134 Changed my mind...

Book 132

Day 595
Charlaine Harris "Dead Until Dark"

OK we've been watching True Blood since the beginning and it's one of our favorite shows. Jeremy never wanted me to read the books because I would find something out before him but its been on long enough. I want to read the books! And I doubt the show can stay too close to the books at this point.

Book 131 Done

Day 595
Liane Moriarty "What Alice Forgot"

What a great book... it really makes you think. I know people say all the time that they wish they could talk to their younger self and tell them not to worry about some things and spend more time focusing on important things. Maybe what we should really be wishing for is that our younger self could come around and remind us what we used to be like before we got older. Worth the read for sure...

Saturday, April 28, 2012

Book 131

Day 589
Liane Moriarty "What Alice Forgot"

Synopsis:

Alice Love is twenty-nine years old, madly in love with her husband, and pregnant with their first child. So imagine her surprise when, after a fall, she comes to on the floor of a gym (a gym! she HATES the gym!) and discovers that she's actually thirty-nine, has three children, and is in the midst of an acrimonious divorce.

A knock on the head has misplaced ten years of her life, and Alice isn't sure she likes who she's become. It turns out, though, that forgetting might be the most memorable thing that has ever happened to Alice.

**Sounds interesting to me**

Day 582
E.L. James "Fifty Shades of Grey"

Whew... that was a great read. I've heard multiple people say that they liked this book but didn't like the way it was written and heard the next two were better. I think I read too much or something because I didn't have an issue with the way it was written at all. I have read many books and even when the writing wasn't the best as long as the story was interesting I have been sucked in. This book sucks you in for sure. How could it not?

This was such a great book... they are from Iowa, there was 11 and one died leaving 10 women to tell their story of being a huge group of friends, having individual friendships, making outside friendships, moving away, having a family and just living life. The good, the bad, the sad, the funny.

So interesting!

Day 539
Kristin Hannah "Home Front"

YAY! A new Kristin Hannah book... a good day! I've been waiting for a while to get the email from the library that said it was available. Perfect timing since I just finished the last one this morning. Exciting to go into a weekend with a great book to read!

Day 539
Jacquelyn Mitchard "Second Nature"

I really enjoyed reading this book... the ending left something to be desired. That always ruins a book for me.

Day 534
Jacquelyn Mitchard "Second Nature"

She wrote The Deep End of the Ocean and a few other books I remember enjoying. I feel like I'm flying through books on the Kindle and that makes me happy.

Day 534
Jennifer Close "Girls In White Dresses"

It was a cute read. A group of girls who hang out through college and what becomes of them relationship wise through the years. Light weekend read...

Day 533
Jennifer Close "Girls In White Dresses"

Back to Kindle reading... borrowed this from the library. This was on my list of books to read so I'm glad I found it on the library website. First novel for this author.

Day 533
Jodi Picoult "Lone Wolf"

She is amazing. Another fantastic book and I'm so sad it ended. I was a little concerned about the wolf theme but she delivered a great story and her characters are always so interesting.

And now we wait a year for her next one...

Day 531
Elizabeth Gilbert "Eat, Pray, Love"

Wow... I found myself really enjoying this book. She split it into the three sections and I loved each one for what it brought. Very interesting. I need to soak this in for a while.

I would love to say I am not going to read another book while I think about this one but 2 days ago my favorite author's book came from Amazon. And though I'm currently obsessed with my new Kindle this is a hardback so I'm off to go read another book.

Day 526
Elizabeth Gilbert "Eat, Pray, Love"

OK I'm going to do it. I was never sure about reading this book and I can't explain why. I haven't seen the movie which I'm happy about now. Let's see what all the fuss was about...

Day 526
Nancy Thayer "Heat Wave"

I flew through this one... good storyline, interesting characters, surprise twist at the end... nice one!

Day 525
Nancy Thayer "Heat Wave"

I read a customer review of this book on Amazon and the person compared her style to Elin Hilderbrand and I love her books so I'm excited to read this author especially since she has apparently written 20 books.

Day 525
Justin Halpern "Shit My Dad Says"

So funny... it was nice to see through all the comments his dad makes that didn't seem the nicest they were always coming from a place of love.

Book 112

Day 523
Justin Halpern "Shit My Dad Says"

I've read the website and his twitter account so I know he's funny. I didn't watch the show because I knew it wouldn't be. I'm hoping the book leans more towards twitter. Another Kindle book borrowed from the library. Wonder how long I can read books on it without paying for them?

Day 523
James Patterson "Sail"

I realized half way through that I already read this one but I couldn't remember the ending. That's the nice thing about reading so much. I am reading so much faster on the Kindle... maybe because it's new but maybe not. We shall see.

Day 522

Kind of weird that I missed reading one of his books but here I am... borrowed this one from the library as an e-book so I only have it until Monday. Off I go...

Day 522
Anthony Bourdain "Kitchen Confidential"

My first Kindle book was a great one. It was actually nice to read a book on it and I'm excited to do more of that. Anthony Bourdain is awesome. He tells it like it is and he says it in a really great way. I would love to read more...

Day 518
Lisa Scottoline "Why My Third Husband Will Be a Dog"
286 pages

This was such a funny great book. A collection of her columns from the Philly Inquirer and they are truly funny.

So... even though I was dead set against them my mother bought me a Kindle Fire and I have to say the thing is awesome. My next few books will be on the Kindle but I promise I will be holding a book again very soon. My love of holding books will never go away.

Day 497
Janet Evanovich "Explosive Eighteen"
305 pages

Life got in the way of reading these last few weeks but I'm back in the game now. This wasn't as good as the rest of her books in this series but the ending left me wondering where we are going next so I guess that's all you can ask for.

Book 108.2

Day 477
Janet Evanovich "Explosive Eighteen"
305 pages

Something made me not pick up the other book. I don't even think it was that I thought I read it before. I just wasn't that interested. So Lisa gave me this book last night and now I'm ready to do some reading.
